FASHION AND FINERY COLLIDE AT BEVERLEY RACECOURSE
THE social highlight of the season in East Yorkshire, Journal Ladies' Day, kicks off a two-day meeting at Beverley Racecourse beginning on Wednesday, August 11, and continuing on Thursday, August 12.
On the track on Wednesday, there’s a seven-race programme, beginning with The Journal Claiming Stakes. Also featured from the Mail News & Media stable are The Hull Daily Mail Maiden Auction Stakes, The East Riding Mail Handicap Stakes and The FindaProperty Handicap Stakes.
Rawfield UK Ltd., building contractors of Hornsea, return to support a contest for sprinters over five furlongs, with Paragon Data, while the Wold Construction Company Handicap Stakes is a race for three-year-olds and upwards over a mile and a quarter.
There will be a competition for best dressed lady and best dressed gentleman, with the finals held in the fashion show marquee.
Hull jewellers Hugh Rice are sponsoring both the best dressed lady and best dressed gentlemen competition and a £1,300 Omega Seamaster watch awaits the lucky man judged the snazziest dresser.
The best dressed lady will receive a bespoke £3,000 diamond necklace.
There will also be a competition for the best hat, and the winner will be able to take advantage of one year’s hairdressing and products at Unique Salon, based in Cottingham and Hessle, and will also enjoy a fantastic meal for two at the Bluebell bar & Grill in Cottingham – one of the region’s top gastropubs.
The winner of the ladies' competition will represent Beverley in the Grand Final of the 'Best-Dressed Lady Race-goer in Yorkshire' competition, held at Doncaster in September, which is the culmination of a special competition linking all the individual 'Ladies Days' on the Yorkshire racecourse this summer. She will then have the chance to win a luxury prize for six at the award-winning Best Western Premier Mount Pleasant Hotel near Doncaster – voted Yorkshire's best hotel in last year's White Rose Awards for Tourism under the auspices of Welcome to Yorkshire, the official tourism body for the region.
Racegoers can also enjoy stunning fashion shows between races by Watson On of Willerby Road, Hull – with models on the catwalk showing off occasionwear from designers including Frank Usher, Dusk and After Six. They will be staged in the special marquee in the centre of the course, with five shows throughout the day. There’s also a range of lifestyle, fashion and beauty stands in the marquee.
Live entertainment following racing will be provided by popular local band Minus Benn.
Racing on the Westwood is set to begin on at 2-10 p.m.
